The Escape

She ran at full speed as she had been for days, she didn't know where she was going, she just knew she had to get away. She could never stop running, never.

With every step she took, she looked over her shoulder to make sure she wasn't being followed. The branches of the forest whipped at her body, but she didn't stop for anything, her clothes had plenty of holes in them now, but it didn't matter to her, she couldn't stop.

She could see the lights of a town stretching out before her, she inhaled sharply and the scent of humans washed over her. Her red eyes shone, the venom pooled in her mouth and the burning in her throat intensified.

Dinner. At last.

Alice ran with Jasper, her hand holding his tightly. She kept focused, concentrated. She wanted to make sure she'd seen if the newborn changed her mind, though by the way she was racing through the woods, she didn't see that happening anytime soon. She was worried about Jasper, too. She knew he had a hard time around humans sometimes, and she hoped he'd be okay.

She was scared - what if they couldn't make it in time? She wasn't sure she could handle Jasper on her own if human blood was spilled. The notion only made her run faster.

She ran on, the bright lights of the town coming closer. She took a deep breath in, looking forward to the beautfiul scent which would fill her mind. She stopped as she considered the new smells, just off to the left, not too far away.

Vampires.

Two of them, she guessed. She looked around her, quickly trying to work out what to do. Fight or Flee.

Her mind was made up in less than a second as she veered off to the right, picking up her pace.

Jasper ran his hand firmly placed in Alice's hand. They followed the scent it was taking them to Forks, near the woods behing the High School but then just as quickly it shifted away.

Jasper felt his stomach plunge, humans where near. He hoped they got to her before she reached them and that no blood was spilled, even with Alice next to him he did not now if he could resist if he smelled fresh human blood.

As Eva got closer, she smelled the vampire veering off suddenly to the right, which was more in her direction than in Alice's or Jasper's. Quickly, she concealed her scent as well as Roman's and raced onward, trying to get to Jasper, Alice, and the vampire. Maybe she was being reckless, but being reckless was working out pretty well for her.
Besides, I'm a little closer, she thought.

She tightened her hand around Jasper's as another vision hit her. The newborn was fleeing - scared that it was her old coven after her. "She's running, Jasper we have to stop her!"

She flew by trees, Jasper at her side, both of them flying through the woods to stop a disaster. She sensed another presence but couldn't pick up on a scent and it only made her more paranoid. "We have company! But I can't see them!"

Roman held Eva's hand as he ran with her, trying to desperate see what was going on. He smelled a vampire - it seemed like a new scent. Was it this Eva had been speaking of? He didn't know. He followed her as she ran, ready to back her up if need be.

Jasper took a deep breathe in taking in the smell of the winds into his every senses but there was not trace of a scent that was not theres or the newborn.

He squeezed Alice's hand reassuringly, knowing that the unknown worried but whatever was there they would face it together.

Mackenzie could smell the two vampires gaining on her, her mind reeled as she panicked over what was to become of her.

She prayed that instead of taking her back, they'd just kill her and be done with it. After all, a runaway was of no use to the coven.

She spurred herself to run faster, not knowing that she was headed into an unseen forces clutches.

"There!" Eva whispered, pointing. She made sure to keep her voice very soft so that Roman could only hear it while he was standing very close to her...which certainly wasn't distracting her at all right. Nope, not a bit. "It's a newborn. I can smell it. It seems like she's more scared than anything, and I'll bet that Jasper and Alice went after her to stop her from feeding on humans. She was near town after all."

She ran faster, squeezing Jasper's hand as they raced through the trees. If she were human, her heart would be pounding wildly in her chest at the fear that gripped her. Suddenly, a vision of Eva and Roman tackled her mind and she felt reassured - they slowed the newborn down. "They've got her!"

The relief in Alices voice as she shouted made Jasper ease his grip.

He felt himself calm, no human blood would spill tonight, a sigh

As Eva pointed, he saw the blur and he nodded. "I see her," he whispered back. Putting himself in front of her to protect her, he sprung faster in front of the scared newborn, taking her down. He was sure Eva could hold her own just fine, but it was instinct to protect the females around him.

She struggled against the vampire who had just knocked her down, she started screaming immediately, he arms faliling around as she tried and failed to fight him off.

"Please, no!" She cried out. "Please, let me go."

She dug her nails into his arm as she tried to escape.

"Please don't take me back... Just kill me, KILL ME." She shouted.

¿Qué? she thought, looking down at the newborn. Before she contemplated the question, she knelt down to help Roman pin her.
"We're not going to take you back to anywhere, and we don't want to kill you either," she said. "We just don't want you to feed on humans. We want to help you."

Jasper and Alice speed through the woods and where by the new born in a matter of moments.

She was pinned to the ground by Roman and Eva was trying to soothe her but the new born was thrashing about screaming.

Jasper stepped forward, "Perhaps we can be of my help, my old friend"

Eva knew that he was talking to Roman, but she answered quickly, "Yes, Jasper, can you calm her down and help us convince her that we're not trying to kill her or bring her back to some place like she thinks we are?"

Alice gasped and immediately took place next to Eva, helping pin down the thrashing newborn. "She thinks we're her old coven," she said, hearing her screaming and pleading. "She thinks we're going to kill her for running away."

Roman continued to hold her down, doing his best to keep her flying nails away from Eva. "Some help would be great, friend," he answered Jasper.

Jasper nodded,

He moved closer to the newborn and looked down at red eyed wild girl. Jasper flinched when looking at her, remembering all the new borns he had created and trained. He knelt down and murmured, "It will be all right, calm down" Jasper walked back to alice focusing on the girl and soothing her with waves of calm.

Eva was in a better position to pin her hands, so she did so quickly. Her eyes flicked from Jasper to the girl and then back again. She really hoped that this would work.

She felt herself calming after the blond vampire had left her side, she relaxed her body no longer fighting against his friend.

She closed her eyes and let out a long wail, wishing for the first time in her life she had the ability to cry.

Alice frowned, but didn't relax her grip. She could only imagine what the girl must think and she felt her chest tighten at the cry that escaped her. She looked to Jasper, making sure he was okay, having caught his flinch just moments ago. "Can you tell us your name?" Alice asked, "We only want to help you."

She shook her head, refusing to speak any further.

She knew very little about the vampire world, having only been a part of it for three short weeks, but she was sure that once they knew her name they would find out who she was and send her back, back to be tortured.

"Look, we really don't want to hurt you," Eva said, trying to get her to talk. "We just don't feed on humans, and two of us keep a permanent residence nearby. I don't think that any of us are like your old coven." Her voice sounded very sincere, and she hoped that the other girl bought it. "Just look at our eyes. See how different they are."
